Various special techniques and materials can be seen in Japan. Among those, we especially focused on “paper” and “Lacquer” which are well known Japanese traditional materials. Once Japanese lacquer is applied, it functionally gives water-proof and strength beside bright and fresh colors. On the other hand, Japanese traditional paper utilizes flexibility to make its characteristic forms with folding and tensioning. When these 2 different met and combined together, they mutually supplement weak points and develop each other’s advantages. This was how the new and unique object was created that can be categorized neither as lacquer object nor paper object.
日本には多くの技術や素材があります。その中でも代表的かつ 伝統的な素材である"紙"と"漆"に着目しました。 漆は、塗布する事で素材へ鮮やかな色彩だけでなく、 防水性や強度を与えます。 紙は、その柔らかさを活かし、折りや張りのある 独自の造形を生み出します。 この２つの素材が出会い、短所を補い合い、長所を伸ばし合うことで、 漆器でもなく、紙器でもない、新しい器が生まれました。
